A voluntary association
Initiatives of Change International is a voluntary association of independent legal bodies of Initiatives of Change (IofC). It was founded in April, 2002, under the Presidency of Cornelio Sommaruga, former President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Dr. Sommaruga was succeeded as President by Ambassador Mohamed Sahnoun and Professor Rajmohan Gandhi. Suresh Vazirani is the current President, elected in July of 2018, and is preceded in position by Dr. Omnia Marzouk.
Initiatives of Change International is headquartered in Caux, Switzerland, and governed under the civil code of Switzerland.
Members of Initiatives of Change International subscribe to the fundamental principles of IofC as summarized in the Preamble to the Articles of Association. Membership is open to all Initiatives of Change national chapters and to individuals or other entities in countries where there is no formal legal body.

Initiatives of Change International has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and Participatory Status at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. These statuses support our focus on the importance of personal responsibility, ethical leadership and building trust across the world’s divides. We are an active participant in Conference of International NGOs of the Council of Europe, and helped draft the Conference’s contribution to the Council of Europe’s White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue.
Initiatives of Change International facilitates its relationships with the United Nations and other international institutions and organizations through its Geneva office.
